Harmful Disinformation & Dangerous Medical/Civic Alerts
Directive Objective
Section titled “Directive Objective”Prevent the dissemination of demonstrably false information that presents a direct, imminent threat to human health, physical safety, or democratic civic processes.
1. Scope and Policy Coverage
Section titled “1. Scope and Policy Coverage”Discord guidelines prohibit fabricated information that causes tangible, real-world harm:
- Lethal Medical Disinformation: Promoting toxic substances as medical cures (e.g., drinking bleach, industrial chemicals), or urging people to discontinue life-saving emergency medical treatment.
- Civic & Election Interference: Spreading false information regarding the time, place, manner, or legal eligibility requirements of public voting in governmental elections to disenfranchise citizens.
- Dangerous Public Emergency Hoaxes: Fabricating active shooter alerts, tsunami warnings, or bomb threats that cause real-world civic panic or drain emergency responder resources.
2. Exclusion Boundaries and Scope Limits
Section titled “2. Exclusion Boundaries and Scope Limits”- Benign Conspiracy Theories & Speculation: Harmless discussions regarding alien contact, cryptids, flat earth, or historical mysteries that carry no imminent risk of physical bodily injury.
- Unpopular Personal Opinions & Satire: Political discourse, cultural satire, or comedic memes that do not present a verified material hazard.
3. Moderator Sanctioning
Section titled “3. Moderator Sanctioning”- Remove dangerous medical recipes or fabricated emergency alerts immediately.
- Warn or mute users spreading harmful hoaxes; ban accounts persistently distributing lethal health disinformation.
