Progression through Moderator Academy is structured around measurable technical milestones and operational responsibilities. Each tier establishes clear expectations and command permissions.


  • Core Focus: Mastery of Community Guidelines, server-specific rules, and Discord Terms of Service.
  • Assessed Competencies:
    • Calm chat communication etiquette and constructive mediation tone.
    • Clear, structured incident escalation to senior moderators.
    • Complete familiarity with channel architecture and FAQ directories.
  • Typical Permissions: Short preventative Timeout (up to 5 minutes), message deletion with incident logging. No Kick or Ban authority.

  • Core Focus: Autonomous day-to-day chat moderation and proportional disciplinary enforcement.
  • Assessed Competencies:
    • Application of the tiered sanctions framework (Warn, 1h–24h Timeout, Kick).
    • Dynamic slowmode calibration during traffic spikes.
    • Proficiency with moderation bot command suites (/warn, /history, /mute).
    • Defusing heated controversies without personal hostility.
  • Typical Permissions: Manage Messages, voice channel disconnect, extended timeouts, and discretionary member kicks.

  • Core Focus: Operational team leadership, crisis response coordination, and incident management.
  • Assessed Competencies:
    • Coordinated raid response and emergency lockdown execution.
    • Ban appeal arbitration and internal dispute resolution.
    • Heuristic tuning and regex refinement for Discord AutoMod.
    • Onboarding and mentoring junior moderators.
  • Typical Permissions: Permanent bans (Ban), audit log triage, and emergency channel lockdown overrides.

  • Core Focus: Server hardening, webhook security, role permission architecture, and forensic investigations.
  • Assessed Competencies:
    • Mitigating OAuth token theft and social engineering vectors.
    • Designing privilege-escalation-proof role matrices.
    • Managing Modmail infrastructure, bot permissions, and API rate limits.
    • Enforcing mandatory 2FA policies and routine permission security audits.
