Commercial Exploitation and Inappropriate Exposure of Minors
Directive Objective
Section titled “Directive Objective”Prevent the financial, labor, or privacy exploitation of minors by server operators, community members, or commercial entities operating on Discord.
1. Scope and Policy Coverage
Section titled “1. Scope and Policy Coverage”This directive regulates activities involving underage users:
- Predatory Monetization Schemes: Coercing minors to run server fundraisers, sell digital services, or solicit donations under false pretenses or exploitative revenue-sharing conditions.
- Digital Forced Labor: Subjecting minors to unpaid, abusive, or high-pressure moderation/administrative shifts with threats of social ostracization or doxxing.
- Invasive Exposure of Personal Life: Third parties filming, publishing, or exposing personal living conditions, medical struggles, or family difficulties of minors to generate community pity, traffic, or monetary donations without legal guardian consent.
2. Exclusion Boundaries and Scope Limits
Section titled “2. Exclusion Boundaries and Scope Limits”- Contractual Minimum Age: Standard rules regarding the legal ability of teenagers to agree to terms or purchase Nitro independently are covered under ToS Category 2 (Eligibility & Age Consent, Page 2.1.1).
- Legitimate Freelance Creative Work: Voluntary commissions (e.g., custom Discord icons, server banner art) created by teenagers within standard parental oversight boundaries.
3. Moderator Operational Guidance
Section titled “3. Moderator Operational Guidance”- Investigate reports where older members or administrators leverage authority over younger users for economic gain.
- Disband predatory fundraising arrangements and remove exploitative commercial listings.
- Escalate severe labor or financial abuse cases involving minors to Discord Trust & Safety.
