Hate Symbols, Degrading Slurs & Coded Dogwhistles

Last updated: Apr 24, 2026View as Markdown

Detect, catalog, and remove overt slurs, hate symbols, and coded dogwhistles designed to evade algorithmic moderation filters.

This directive regulates:

  • Degrading Slurs: Explicit racial, ethnic, religious, or homophobic slurs (e.g., N-word, F-slur, T-slur, and intentional obfuscations with leetspeak, numbers, or zero-width spaces).
  • Hate Group Symbology: Nazi swastikas, SS runes, Confederate battle flags, KKK crosses, and flags of recognized genocidal regimes.
  • Coded Memes & Dogwhistles: Numbers (e.g., 1488, 13/50), coded phrases, or co-opted memes used deliberately to signal supremacist beliefs or intimidate minority community members.

  • Linguistic and Pedagogical Analysis: Discussion of linguistic evolution or historical context in academic channels where slurs are referenced strictly as object of study without intent to insult or demean.
  • Benign Religious Emblems: The traditional religious use of the sauwastika in Hindu, Buddhist, or Jain contexts where it clearly appears in legitimate sacred art.

Maintain native AutoMod blocklists with regex patterns for common leet obfuscations:

(?i)\b(s+l+u+r+1|s+l+u+r+2)\b

Set AutoMod action to Block Message and Send Alert to Channel (#staff-alerts).
