Moderating high-velocity communities inevitably exposes staff members to repetitive conflict, hostile language, and situational pressure. The single most vital asset in any community is not the bot stack or server structure: it is the well-being of the humans safeguarding it.

The moderator responds with disproportionate sanctions or cynical remarks to minor infractions they previously resolved with patience. Inability to log off Discord, compulsively checking notifications and channels during work, school, or personal time. Erosion of community empathy, characterizing ordinary members as fundamentally disruptive or an unwelcome burden. Ceasing participation in `#staff-chat` or withdrawing from team check-ins and debriefs.
  1. Structured Shifts: No volunteer moderator should maintain active, high-intensity shifts for more than 2 to 3 consecutive hours per session.
  2. Leave of Absence (@Staff-LOA): Provide a formal role that mutes staff channels without guilt whenever a team member needs personal time away.
  3. Duty Rotation: Rotate frontline chat moderators into quieter tasks, such as handbook updates, suggestion audits, or event preparation.
  4. Peer Support Debriefs: Following stressful incidents or disturbing content exposure, encourage immediate debriefing with an operations lead or trusted peer.
